Frequently Asked Questions
I want to perform at a salon. How do I do it?
There are two options!
First Option:
Formal programmed salons. These are paid performance opportunities and performers are expected to be more refined and performance ready. If you would like to be considered to be booked for the more formal salons, please send resume, audio or video of you performing within the last year, and your instagram handle to salonavecmoi@gmail.com to be considered.
Second Option:
Open Mic Salons. These are non payment performances. Before each salon there will be a sign-up sheet with limited slots to perform with the accompanist for the evening. Please only sign-up one slot per person. This sign-up method is designed to give you an opportunity to perform something with an accompanist, in front of people, a piece you wouldn’t normally sing/play but have in your back pocket for fun, reminisce on a role you played once upon a time, a run-through, etc. Note that if you are performing you do not have to purchase a ticket; however, if you bring a guest along they will be required to purchase a ticket.
If you can no longer perform please send notice—slide in @salonavecmoi’s DM’s on Instagram, email Karlye at salonavecmoi@gmail.com and/or remove yourself from the sign-up sheet to allow someone to fill your space.
As a performer, what will be provided?
An accompanist/pianist, a music stand, and a chair (if you need it).
As a performer, will I have time to run my piece or touch base with the accompanist before the event?
Yes, Open Mic Style Salons will have the opportunity an hour before the event begins. Details announced before the event.
Formal Style Salons will always have that opportunity. Depending on the programming, more rehearsals may be scheduled.
As a performer am I allowed to drink?
Yes for open mic style salons. If you’re 21+ (which most of you will be) smoke weed, drink wine, have fun but make sure you don’t overdo it and can still actually perform.
Can anyone attend even if they’re not an artist or from the classical art world?
Of COURSE! That’s what this is about—providing people who are in and out of the industry an intimate connection and opportunity to enjoy classical music. Everyone should have the chance to see whether or not classical music is for them in a setting they’re comfortable in.
Should I dress up?
Please do! There will be themes announced for each salon to give you ideas and inspiration on what you should wear and no one likes a party pooper. Part of the fun of attending things in the classical performing arts is dressing up so join us. Karlye will, her close friends will, so you should, and know you won’t be alone in your garb.
Can I get a refund on a ticket?
Unfortunately not at this time. All tickets to this event are final sale and refunds, credits, or event transfers cannot be accommodated; however, if you can no longer make it, please feel free to give it to a friend and notify with the new name at salonavecmoi@gmail.com.
Will there be photos and videos taken?
Photo / Video Disclaimer: Photography and video will be taken at events and may be used for promotional purposes. By entering the space you consent to being photographed/videoed and used at the discretion of Salon Avec Moi and/or Karlye Whitt.
